Last week Matteo of UBM, Milan’s only bike messenger company, passed under my flat after work to pick up some Cinelli soft goods to accompany his Bootleg Mystic for the full “Cinelli-look” at ECMC, Budapest. First thing I noticed was the “worn” look on his Mystic frame’s paint job, always a pleasure to see the matte black turn to “polish” (effect of millions of accumulated brushes with the rider’s trousers). Glorious stock setup ridden to hell.
Having just come out of one of the nastiest spells of wet weather on record over the last few weeks in Milan we very quickly and very seriously moved into a heavy discussion regarding the hardware of choice in antagonistic weather. Practicality is a precision in the details. There is no better feeling than setting out to ride in the rain perfectly prepared. This is how Matteo rides.
