23/07/2007 WARNING COUNTERFEIT RAM 27.2 SEAT POSTS This is to inform you that counterfeit items have been sold as Cinelli RAM 27.2 seat posts to end users in many countries, mainly through e-bay. 100% of these counterfeit seat posts break suddenly and unexpectedly! We have tested some of these seat posts and found that they are totally unable to sustain the requested stresses and present a dangerous tendency to break under loads which are normally tolerated by the authentic components. We have also been informed by the users who purchased counterfeit seat posts in good faith, that they snapped without giving any prior sign of warning, this being extremely dangerous to the user as the breakage creates a sharp cutting edge which can cause serious injuries to the extent of permanent disability. The appearance of the counterfeit products is very similar to the original Cinelli RAM 27.2 seat posts and in many cases the e-bay sellers indicate that they are original Cinelli items (also by showing images of original products), however, if you are in possession of a piece, or are in a position to inspect the product, it is very easy to distinguish them, by checking the following characteristics: - From a front view, the counterfeit RAM 27.2 seat posts present two prominent edges in the top section as shown on image below (BAD) instead of a flat smooth finishing surface (GOOD): FRONT VIEW - Inside the pillar of original Cinelli RAM 27.2 seat posts, there is a label reporting the serial number, which also indicates the production lot and the test control. This label cannot be removed and remains clearly visible also on used products, if this label is not present on the seat-post in question, it cannot be an original Cinelli product. The images below show two different types of labels, one of these is always present inside the original Cinelli seat-posts. - The user’s manual / warranty card is always included in the packaging also if purchased in OEM bulk packaging. We strongly recommend to purchase only original products sold through our distribution channel. Non-original products are not tested and can be potentially dangerous.
